Omega Construction breaks ground for Sigma Nu Fraternity House

April 25, 2013, 1:40 pm

N.C. State University has begun the transformation of its Greek Court into a new and improved Greek Village.  Omega Construction, Inc., a General Contracting firm based in Pilot Mountain, NC, has started construction of the Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity House as a part of this transformation. The Greek Court Redevelopment Task Force established this idea in 2005 and has since made great progress.  A total of 20 building lots exist in a phased redevelopment plan, and Phase 1 of that plan has been committed to Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Delta, and Delta Gamma.  The Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was established in 1895 making it the first original fraternity at NC State University.

Omega Construction was chosen to be the general contractor for the Sigma Nu house and in late January began digging footings.  Despite an extremely wet winter, construction has progressed well and the project is on schedule.  The new fraternity house will have a large commercial kitchen and will sleep 37 students. Furthermore, educational and recreational areas will be built, as well as an alumni room.

Construction on the 21,000 square foot house is progressing rapidly and contractors have been working extra hours in order to maintain this progress. The site was excavated in late January. Plumbing and drainage systems were installed during N.C. State’s spring break, and in March, the structural steel for the first floor of the building was completed.  Omega’s workers have recently poured the second floor concrete slab and have begun wood framing for the 2nd and 3rd floors.  Managing the project for Omega Construction is Donnie Fletcher, Senior Project Manager and Superintendent Roger Neugent.

If all goes according to schedule, occupancy of the Sigma Nu Fraternity House will occur for the spring semester of 2014.
