Omega Construction, Inc. names New Management Team

August 29, 2012, 10:38 pm

While most construction companies have had difficulty maneuvering through this prolonged economic downturn, Omega Construction, Inc. of Pilot Mountain, NC has not only survived but has taken bold strategic moves which have resulted in serving a broader range of markets, hiring additional personnel and substantial revenue growth. With this growth come changes in the management structure and future ownership of Omega Construction. Paul Covington, CEO of Omega, announced today that Barry Hennings, former President and CEO of John S. Clark Company, has been named President of Omega Construction. Barry has 28 years of construction experience leading one of the largest and most recognized General Contracting firms in the Southeast. Barry will assume responsibility for all operations at Omega including business development, pre-construction, estimating, project management and safety.

Covington also announced that Greg Marshall has been named the Chief Financial Officer of Omega Construction. Greg, previous Senior VP and CFO at JS Clark, has 20 years of construction and accounting experience, including experience with project financing for a large variety of project types and financing structures and he has extensive contacts in the banking, finance and construction industries. Greg will be responsible for all financial aspects of Omega’s business including accounting, finance, risk management, bonding and banking relationships.

In addition, Covington announced that in order to insure that Omega Construction would remain an employee owned company Barry and Greg have put together a management group of Omega employees that are in the process of purchasing his interest in Omega Construction. Covington will continue to serve Omega Construction as its Chief Executive Officer after the purchase of his interest.

Joining Barry and Greg in the management group at Omega are Chad Motsinger, David Murray, Kevin Hennings and Lee Cook. Chad is Vice President of Omega and has worked with the company for fourteen years. He is responsible for estimating, negotiating and managing many of the company’s private projects, including being instrumental in assisting clients during the design development and preconstruction phases. David brings his 34 years of construction experience specializing in the industrial, warehouse, distribution and design/build markets to Omega. Kevin Hennings will also join the Omega team once he completes his current assignment of winding down the Clark current project obligations. Kevin’s 28 years of experience includes extensive Design/Build experience working with clients from site selection and conceptual design stages through complete project delivery. Lee Cook has 30 years’ experience in retail, commercial and medical office construction and will continue to serve his long term customers under the Omega flag.

Hennings noted that Omega also has hired several Project Managers and Superintendents that had worked at JS Clark. They join Omega’s existing project management staff of Chris Leonard, Donnie Fletcher and Matt Pardue. Hennings said Omega will continue to hire additional field, project management and office personnel as JS Clark winds down operations.

Covington stated, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Barry and Greg at Omega Construction. During Omega’s 37 year history, I have always strived to build Omega into a Customer focused organization built on relationships. When I saw the strong Customer relationships that Barry and the others were able to bring to Omega, it was truly a perfect match. Our business philosophies and customer focus are so closely aligned; I would never have imagined it until we began discussions. It is unfortunate to see what transpired at JS Clark but it is a sign of the effects of this difficult economy. I feel blessed that Barry, Greg and I were able to combine our resources and we feel Omega Construction is strongly positioned for the future. I am also satisfied to know that Omega Construction will be transferred into the capable hands of Barry, Greg and other Omega employees.”

“When Obayashi announced that the Management Buyout negotiations would not continue and JS Clark would not be taking on any new obligations, we looked at options of how to continue providing quality construction services to our long term Customer relationships we had developed during my 28 years at Clark,” Hennings said. “I have always known and respected Paul’s operation at Omega Construction and knew from our first meeting that combining our resources with Omega’s operations would be a positive experience for our Customers. The transition from JS Clark operations to Omega has been seamless and has allowed me and my team to continue providing the level of service our Customers expect.”

Greg added, “Paul has built a solid operation here at Omega with an excellent reputation. Coming from being the CFO of a $300 million a year general contractor, I was pleasantly surprised to see the financial strength of Omega Construction and the project controls Omega has implemented to manage its projects. The strong relationships that Omega has developed in banking, bonding and insurance will allow us to continue to serve our Customers in the way they have become accustomed to.”
